JS..please tell us again why you have your medal!  It was on the page that was lost...You are such a geo cache winner and deserve praise for your award.

WOW it is cold in Houston...not used to this, BUT..it is waaay better than 106*

Charlotte, you summed it up precisely. It wouldn't be as exasperating if this were on-site construction, but this is a dirt storage yard for a Water Utilities project over a mile away. This was apparently the only place that would rent their land for these mountains of recently-excavated soil and massive dump trucks. One department of the City issued a permit for a construction office, which is not what's there. Then the Code Dept. can't or won't enforce laws against another city department. It's a mess, and the neighbors are stuck dealing with it. The city representative gave me his word this will be gone Dec. 12, so let's see if it happens. I have made a lot of people mad at me -- the church, the contractor and some city people. Most of them admitted they wouldn't want this thing across the street from their own houses. The bottom line is it's illegal.

Nice Christmas party pics.

Interesting medal that "one of ours" was wearing.  Is that a 'distinguished service award?'   Have a great day everyone.

so, Lynell, the "exempt" church is making a profit renting out that property and to "hell" with the neighbors?!  I hope the city holds them to their Dec 12 exit dead line.  I can only imagine that beeping going on all day beginning at 7 AM..or before.  I live on a street with lots of old apartments that are being sold for the property.  Then the building begins...noise, dirt, dust, garbage, beeping.  One just sold right up the street so I know it is just a matter of time before the construction starts.  We are so happy to see the apartments be replaced by lovely homes, but in the interim it is inconvenient.  Gee it is cold here...much better than 106 though.  ;-)

Aaargh!  I am so ready for the illegal dirt storage lot across the street from out house to go away!  If you can believe anything from a city official, Dec. 12 is supposed to be the last day.  The front end loader has been beep-beep-beeping all afternoon as the tandem dump trucks get loaded and head for the landfill.  I still find it hard to believe that a church would do this to the neighbors. The project is supposed to last TWO YEARS.  We're about six weeks into it, and it is driving me nuts!!!

Along with everyone else - thank you so much to the hostesses and hosts of the annual SOC Christmas party at Peaches' home.  It is always a lovely setting and wonderful food shared by all.

Lynell, I will try to send you my photos very soon as I did manage to take a few more than you did - what a surprise!  I have seen Lonnie's on FB and they are wonderful.  It was so wonderful seeing everyone again and missed those that could not make it for whatever reason.

What a great Christmas party!  Many thanks to Peaches and to the wonderful hostesses and hosts who put on this annual shindig.  Peaches' house looked amazing, the food was incredible and the company was just the best -- SOC friends!

I took a few pictures.  Seems I got distracted by the food and conversation, so I hope Lonnie will bail me out with pictures of everyone that I missed, which was just about everyone.  My apologies to the ones I missed.

The pictures are on the Images page.  Lonnie, Cynthia, somebody help!!

This site is almost as good as going to school with all of you, it was - heck - the only reason we all went was to see each other every day we could and be in all the conversations even if mainly a listener.
Keep the grind going just don't let it get you down... Hope you all have a wonderful weekend especially those not able to be there and Hope you all Glow in this moments you have each and every day, specially 'His' season, mine also- must have hit the wrong month date 'cause its wrong.
I'll never know how anyone gets any thing out of what I try to type or say. One finger would be easier than hit & miss to way off base. I' get done real fast loosing my thought before it is said or become real creative.
Always,

Hey, Mike.  I gave that same Bum Phillips quote to my husband this morning.  I was glad to see that Leach finally got offered a job and hope he does well at Washington State.  This is going to be a wild football weekend.  Can't wait.  Won't be able to attend the party on Sunday and am really going to miss seeing everyone.  Be safe.

JS, haven't you received the initial order of "Lynell is Swell" bumper stickers?  I ordered 50,000 several months ago and gave them your address.  BTW, they are coming COD, but simply submit the bill to the "Lynell is Swell" campaign headquarters and I'm sure they will take care of it.  If you need more, just submit the proper requisition form in triplicate.

Hmmmm....this is peculiar.  Several posts on here seem to be missing.  I wonder whassup with that?  I know JS posted a very attractive picture of one of his geocache locations, and there were some other posts that are missing, too.  Maybe we have a ghost.

Lynell, we need to crank up the "Lynell is Swell" Presidential campaign again. If you can push through the removal of that illegal dirt operation, I know you'll be able to herd that dead-beat bunch of Congressmen into actually doing something and earning their paychecks!

It's about time the White House had some feline residents, too. Congrats on your victory.

I am very thankful that I live in America, where we still live by rule of law, not might. I just won a battle with the City, a contractor, and the church across the street that leased their property as a staging area for a public utilities project that is expected to take two years. This was illegal in many ways, but the contractor has agreed to remove their heavy equipment and mountain of dirt from the residentially-zoned property. In about two weeks, no more heavy equipment noise and Diesel fumes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. No constant beep-beep-beep of the front-loader backing up, and I hope no more clouds of dust and microbes from those 12-foot piles of dirt. This took a few letters and e-mails, about a thousand phone calls, listening to many whoppers from all parties, and pursuing it till the right person at the City helped us homeowners on this block. God bless justice!

Happy Thanksgiving!

If you ever need to make time slow down, all you have to do is have lightening blow out the modem on your computer. We have been all day without a computer, a television, and a telephone. We had to wait all day for the AT&T technician to come out and install a new modem. He came about 6;00 tonight. I am so glad to be able to watch TV and use my computer
Today marked the "moment of silence" in Dealey Plaza.. My husband has gone every year for years, as do a lot of Dallasites. The crowd was somewhat thinner this year: about 150 people were there, less than other years. Beverly Oliver, who usually sings "Amazing Grace," was not there this year. Some people who attended every year for decades are no longer living, including Pancho Medrano. Of course, the assassination was forty-eight years ago.

Kathy Pulte's comment got me thinking about the difference between opinion and fact.  So much of what passes for "fact" in the heated political debates to which we seem to be almost daily subjected actually appear to be, at most, someone's opinion or -- worse yet -- totally-unfounded myth or rumor.  Churchill said it best:  "[y]ou are entitled to your own opinions, but not to your own facts."  I think the media have really let everyone down by backing away from their traditional role of investigative reporting and fact-checking, in favor of providing "infotainment."  It makes it increasingly difficult and frustrating to sort through all the competing claims, half-truths, etc.
