I'm very sorry to hear about Danny's brother, and I hope Mrs. Green has a successful recovery.

Received a call from Sandy Bristow that Danny Green's brother died in a car crash last night. His mother was with him in the car and has several broken bones. She is in the hospital. Danny was behind them in another car when the crash happened. I do not know any other details. Let us pray for this family.

Ginger, how wonderful to hear that your mother's church friends are bringing her comfort during this time. I remember seeing pictures of her as a young mom, how pretty and sweet she looked. Betty is so good and precious to all.

Betty Gibbs went to see her today and prayed with her. That's the nicest thing she could have done.. Haven't heard from my uncle today on her condition..yet. Betty described how she was and her 'vital signs' at the time of her visit, were good.
The old Hillcrest 'bunch', Grace Temple Baptist, First Baptist Dallas are keeping up with her and I have emailed First Baptist Gatesville.  I do not know what I would do without email. I have handled so much family business through emails.. Ginger

Dorothy Virginia Hopson Hearn (mother) is in the Medical Center in Plano, Coit Rd.@George Bush Freeway.. 87, full blown Alzheimers. She has Atrial Fibrillation, dehydrated, and kidneys have shut down. They're trying to get them to work. She can hardly see, can't say words, only sounds, at this point. She was President of 3 PTA's( Fran's KGN, Harrell Budd, and Boude Storey). Sister, Fran Hearn, died in May.. Have contacted the 'old' Hillcrest Baptist Church 'bunch'. First Baptist Dallas knows. My uncle, Paul Hopson, is her brother and executor and he's watching over her. She's been in a 'home' in Lewisville, near him for a couple of years.

Can't believe that Doc Proc is eerily close to being accurate! But then again, he is very experienced in "handling" girls. Bottoms up, Doc!

Sivils was an Oak Cliff icon. It was located on the "triangle" where Ft Worth Ave and Davis split.

Bob Baker and I frequently had to go there to rescue Caldwell when he picked up more girls than even he could handle.

Does anyone remember Sivel's Drive on the Fort Worth Cutoff In Oak Cliff? I had the granddaughter of the owner in one of my classes. One day she brought to class some "Look" magazines in which the restaurant had been featured. Siviles was quite impressive. They had a large number of attractive car hops working there (mostly blonde). I don't remember the food, but I guess it didn't matter because of all the eye candy.

Where was the Brockles Restaurant located?  I watched a 2-hour show on the History Channel last night called "You Don't Know Dixie".  Very entertaining and even informative.

Phyllis, here's a link to a straightened-up version of that picture I took at Graceland a long time ago.  If you haven't been to Graceland and you're a fan, you should go, and also to the little house in Tupelo where Elvis was born.  I was not that big a fan, but I loved visiting his homes.  I came away with a new respect for him.

Now I note that I stuck these pictures in the middle of an old Photoshop album from a class.  duh.

My two year son and I were shopping in a grocery store in Cherokee, North Carolina. We were in Cherokee because my husband was evaluating the Cherokee school system for the BIA. There was a TV set playing above the people. No one was paying any attention to the TV until the announcement came on. The atmosphere of the small Safeway went totally silent as we stared at each other in disbelief.

I was on vacation from teaching school and I was in Fort Worth shopping with a friend.  The announcement came over the P A system in the department store and my friend and I were shocked and sad.  I was never a fan of Elvis but was saddened as I watched the way he declined as he grew older.

I was making sales calls, heard it on the radio, immediately called the biggest Elvis fan I knew, Linda (Mooney, Class of '65) Leverett. She didn't believe me.

I was at work at Dallas Legal Aid, my first lawyer job.  One of the secretaries heard it on the radio.  At first, none of us believed the news.  I idolized Elvis when he first became popular and, at age 11, had an Elvis "poodle skirt" -- felt circle skirt with appliques, etc. -- and Elvis tennies.  In 1969, Elvis flirted with me on an airplane in Chicago, and I was so dumbstruck, I couldn't even speak.  Darn, there went my big chance; I could have been the one to find him dead on the bathroom floor!  Seriously, though, he was awesome.  Beautiful voice, and -- incredibly -- in person, he was even better-looking than in pictures.  That's probably why I couldn't talk:  momentarily lost in that gorgeous creamy skin and velvety black eyes (swoon)!  Don't mind me.  Move along; nothing to see here.

Do you remember where you were when you learned that the King was dead? I was driving up out of the courthouse parking lot.  My car radio was on an AM station, and as soon as I got to the ramp outside the building, I heard the news. The money-taker at the courthouse was in tears.

Last Saturday I met up with the Triumph sports car club for breakfast at Strack's in the Spring/Klein area. This is the same place I've twice run into Lyle Lovett dining there.

Anyway, there were 15 of us present on Saturday. I was sitting between one guy who had just returned from a family vacation in Paris (France ... not Texas). On the other side was a couple who had gone to Cape Cod for their summer vacation. They rented a house for $1,000 a week and stayed 7 weeks.

By the time breakfast was over I felt like a slacker and underachiever.

The club V.P. (Mike H.) drives this beautiful 1962 TR3:

The Cape Cod guy (Steve) played a little prank on Mike by placing a special decal on the back of Mike's car. We were going to blame it on Lyle Lovett but he was a no-show that day.

Jud, the homemade version's better, and it sounds like some places ripped off the Brockles dressing -- or vice versa.  A lettuce wedge is still the best and easiest of all salads, in my opinion.
