My former spouse and I vacationed in Creede, CO every summer for 14 years.  I haven't been back in 27 years, but miss it a lot.  Randy and his family live there and he is a fly fishing guide, if anyone is interested in a trip.  Creede averages only 5 nights a year that the temp does not go into the 30's.  Just talking about this is making me feel chilly!

The Burning Man event kicks off on Aug. 30th and again it looks like I won't be able to attend.

But a viable alternative is the Zozobra festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Sept. 9th. Zozobra is a 50' tall puppet depicting Old Man Gloom. People are encouraged to submit items that have given them grief (like divorce papers or photos or slips of paper listing bad stuff you've encountered) to be burned along with the huge marionette.

Sounds like a great way to kick off the Fall if Dru's knee and my lungs are up to it. Here is a short clip from 2005:

Maybe we could stay with Val Kilmer or Julia Roberts? (I think MMM sold his nearby ranch).

We lived in Denver for the first 3 years, and in Vail for the last 4 years.  Our daughter, Delaney, now 36, was born in Denver and we moved to Vail when she was 3 months old.  If I had life to live over again...........!

Squatting is allowed in CO.  A few years ago, we were on Black Bear Road between Red Mountain Pass and Telluride.  Joan needed to take a rest break and we stopped at an old abandoned mine.  Being the modest person that she is, she went way behind the mine and completely out of sight.  In a few minutes, Bryan and I heard a scream, followed shortly by Joan running out from behind the mine still pulling up her shorts.  Apparently, Whistle Pigs (marmonts) are a curious lot.  One came up behind Joan and gave her a little love bite on the unclothed part of her behind.  Didn't break the skin, but left very obvious teeth marks.  So, yes, you can squat but many unknown perils await.

Good point, Sam.  Actually, I'd planned to pitch a tent for discretion.  63 degrees sounds pretty tempting to me.  Where in Colo did you live?

Very disturbing statement Lynell, "Is squatting allowed in Colorado? "  I really bet they have restrooms there.   I know they do, I lived there for seven years.   But, strokes and folks!!!

I'll admit I can't sing a note (except when I'm alone in the car and sound just like Aretha Franklin,) but did anyone hear that little blonde girl sing on -- what -- America's Got Talent?  Was that voice for real???  She sounded like Maria Callas or Beverly Sills or some other mature soprano.  Was that her voice?

Geeze, Louise, Charlotte.  The overnight low in Dallas is an optimistic 82 degrees.  It's blooming hot out there; that much I know.  It's a hundred and something.

Is squatting allowed in Colorado?  Just inquiring in case someone pitches a tent on your driveway wearing a red wig and anti-bear-other-than-Golden perfume.

I agree, as you know, about haters who choose this venue as their venting place.  Mean-spirited comments are not welcome here.  That's why we have blogs, shrinks, Facebook, et al.

This guest book does best when subjects are innocuous topics like offspring, squirrels, Miatas, art, running into SOC people in surprising places, etc.  Not to mention dogs and cats.

DON'T TRY TO WORK OUT YOUR CHILDHOOD GRIEVANCES HERE.  HAPPY AND/OR INFORMATIVE STUFF IS ALWAYS WELCOME.  Most of us have seen every political rant there is, so please SPARE us all and go easy on that.

Any bird people out there?  Turtle people?  Lizard people?  Proud parents?  Grandparents?

Please sign your whole name.

Guestbook posters are guests and should know by this age how to act like guests.  (Seems like I should win an award for most uses of "guests" in one sentence.)  Most of us do, so chime in.

I don't know who her is?  Who are you talking about?  Anyway, I know you were frustrated, but sheesh, we don't need any loonies over here either.

Hope everyone is having a great day.  It is 79* in Steamboat Springs!

If you remember I had lunch with Gary and Cheryl Loper here in Crockett.  He has been working on the pipe organ at our church since the 1980's.  Last night at a church dinner, Face Book came up at my table so I related the story of Gary.  One women just kept going on about how YOUNG he looked.  Since I am the only yardstick she had to go by.......what was she saying about me?

Charlotte:

Joan has her last doctor's visit today and two more PT sessions.  She still has a limited range of motion in her wrist and has not been allowed to pick up any weight.  School starts next Monday, so she doesn't have much more recovery time.  To make things worse, she was driving her prized Mini on Saturday and some kid ran into the car while she was stopped.  She got out of the car and was giving the kid (21 yr old) a severe tongue lashing when some woman standing on the corner said "You can't talk to him like that-he's not your child".  Joan informed her that it was none of her business and she would talk to him any way she wanted.  You don't mess with those 4th grade teachers.  I'm just glad I wasn't driving it.  I really don't know if I would go home or not!

Oh,Barry, I am so sorry to learn about Buddy!  I, too, enjoyed your stories about her. I hope she goes quickly and painlessly.  Those photos are wonderful.  Thanks for posting them.  I think the life span of a squirrel is under 10 years.  We had a great mother squirrel at our ranch who was not afraid of us either.  We knew her for about 5 years.  We never held her but it was fun to see her lolling on the steps in the shade of our car barn just watching us come and go.  We put out the deer corn for her and her babies.  She always had huge litters of babies.  She would move them around the ranch as she pleased..she was not even concerned with our dogs.

How is Joan by the way?  Mended?

Did you see the breaking news on "Survivor:Nicaragua"?

The oldest participant will be 67 yr. old Jimmy Johnson, famous as the late night spokesperson for the ExtenZe product. Oh, and he coached football somewhere way back when.

This time around it will be the Old vs the Young. Jimmy's team will be ages 40 and up. The other tribe will be age 30 and younger.

My money is on the youngsters.

Barry I'm so sorry about Buddy!!  I've enjoyed reading about your adventures with her.  You & Joan are compassionate people & you are my hero for catching her & taking her to the Vet when she was hurt!!!  I know you will miss her, but maybe her babies will be her legacy & will stay around your back yard.  You are a good guy Barry!
