Yesterday at the physical therapy session, Dru was somewhat confused about just exactly what trauma was done to complete her knee replacement. The therapist referred her to the following video in which YOU can pretend to be the surgeon and perform the operation step-by-step. It was an eye-opener for Dru and I.

So here's your virtual opportunity to wield the scapel (and saw, and drill, and stapler etc):

Wish we'd seen this before the actual surgery. It wouldn't have changed her decision - she'd have just been better informed.

Try working for a 'Non-White' Principal...  I had never heard of 'Reverse Discrimination' before working in the Public School Systems... Black to White in Tenn..
I saw Hispanic to Black and White...in Texas..  I could write a book on that one..
Even though I encountered that problem over and over, I worked with a lot of  Non-White Teachers  that were wonderful people.. I have always wondered how people if they are doing their job, have time to abuse, harass, discriminate against others...!

Hey John, in response to your memo...of all the difficult assignments I had, Hicks Muse was probably the most demanding, but I loved it...an atmosphere of discipline, expectation of excellence and dependability.  We were pampered, but we had it really hard...the money, bonuses and other perks were over the top!  I liked knowing they believed in me, and I had the best boss ever...but no one else would work for him because he was viewed as difficult...no...the most ruthless man I ever worked for was an old masters art collector and he never had anything nice to say to anyone in the office...he was rude to his 80 year old father who came to the office every day and would walk out and leave him there for one of the girls to take home...he travelled the world and nothing was ever good enough for him.  If there was a dead dog in the middle of the floor and you didn't pick it up, he would tell you how stupid you were and if you did pick it up, he would ask you who told you to move it...man, I was so determined I made it 18 months but then I had to say something...best move I ever made!

Memo To Claudia: Money management firms are notorious for having huge egos at the helm who have a tendency to crush their lowly employees. Probably because they can't take out their frustrations on their well-heeled clients who would never put up with such behavior.

I'm wondering if you were refering to Hicks/Muse? My stints in Houston with D. Breen and V. Nelson were no picnic either. Fayez Sarofim was another local shop that was ripe with stories of the owner grinding on his well-paid hired hands. The bonuses were good ... you just had to remember to leave your self-respect at home.

Retirement is good.

I agree that is a total lack of wisdom and good judgment...

Lynell, I liked what you said earlier about why would the reporter from "Rolling Stone" write such a negative article. is it because they are being their usual anti-establishment selves? You also have to ask yourself why a general would allow a reporter from "Rolling Stone" to follow him around for four weeks. In my opinion, General MacCrystal show a terrible lack of judgement.

I lied about not posting again today.  In my opinion, the Military personnel in harm's way do not need a change of commanders at this stage of the war.

I have a feeling that Sam's support is based on many things, none of which is just trying to be an antagonist.

Yes, Lynelle, we have...I for one always feel better when I can speak my mind.  When it comes to criticism of your superiors, even if you tell the truth, you will suffer the consequences...I determined that if you are the one to address the problem, you become the problem...most bosses don't want the truth and wimpy employees let them get away with it.  Guess it hasn't always worked in my favor, but then a clear conscience is a great thing...I sleep really well! Told one boss to step back and take a look at how he treated people...he was notoriously rude and inconsiderate...he was more than a boss though, he owned the company and had more money than Silas Marner! I didn't care...I left at 2 pm that afternoon for a job interview and never came back...still to this day I pity him...he is miserable!

P.S.  I wonder why Rolling Stone would publish such an article, knowing it would bring comfort to America's enemies.  I'd like to know if they paid the general for the interview.  Talk bad about your boss, even to a charming interviewer, and watch what happens when the interview is published.

I also wonder why they chose to send me a free subscription several months ago.  I've thrown out all the issues, even though I remember when the magazine was interesting.

Kathleen, I think you are correct about the financial advice.  However, I'm hoping to make my $300 back tomorrow.

John, if you're as smart as you claim to be, you will comply with Dru's birthday request. Funny that you'd ask your dentist about the peanuts, because I asked my hand doctor (and also Bosko Haas's) after my last surgery if I could play the piano.  He said, "Sure. Go right ahead."  I've been playing Hot Cross Buns ever since.  David and cats have threatened to leave.

Kathleen, actually I was trying to help Ginger's medical condition, eye rolling, and made no comment one way or the other about supporting McChrystal.  I remember here in Ennis about four years ago, when the newspaper editor said I was the only one in town opposed to the hospital bond issue to build a new hospital.   (That I was opposed to borrowing is beside the point).  The bond issue passed, but about 40% of the voters voted against it.  So much for me being the only one!  Sort of like your broad, generalized statement regarding McChrystal, and me being alone if I supported him.   Even though McChrystal made only a few of the disparaging comments toward Obama's gang of thugs, he was in charge of all his "troops", and should have thrown the magazine out.  I believe the right decision was made.  I'll leave it at that until Saturday noon til 3 pm.

Lynell, Our financial expert J.S. told me sometime ago on this website to go away in May and come back in September. I complimented him and told him I thought that was excellent financial advice. He sure seems to be right so far.
Sam, You can't be supporting McCrystal. If so, you are alone.

In 2006 when my son joined the Army, their slogan was "An Army of One". Later that year it was changed to "Army Strong". I guess the prior slogan implied that a new recruit might be able to be an "individual" which was never the case.

Dru update: finished session 5 of outpatient physical therapy today and is making progess with flexing the knee. Still requires a walker. I put new tennis balls on the legs of the walker and she reports an improvement in miles per gallon. Tomorrow is her bday and she is clamoring for spinach enchiladas from Tortuga's Cantina (site of our 2007 SOC party).

JS update: today had my follow-up root canal visit. The doctor said I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted now. I asked "can I eat peanuts?" and he said Yes. I told him "Wow, that's great. I used to be allergic to them!".

Ginger, you could get ditzy with all that eye rolling.  Okay, a minor correction to John's post, and my folllowup.  A troop is a  unit, a trooper is a member of that unit.  So, technically, let's say wiki-correct, McChrystal is a trooper.  Make no mistake, in the Army, you are a trooper, an infantryman, regardless of your rank.  The one thing I remember about my time there is that they made sure that NO ONE forgot, irrespective of their job, that they were an infantryman first, a trooper.  That was your job, and our troops do it better than anyone the world has ever seen.  They make sure Memphis is safe.  Welcome home trooper, General McChrystal.

It's probably okay Barry.  John broke his own rule with a 1:12 pm Wednesday political post (of sorts), so that must mean all bets are off on that schedule.  Good point John about that one troop coming home.  Welcome home general.

I think we are predisposed to be violent, peaceful, nuts, agreeable and so forth...that has been proven among siblings in the same environment, love, guidance.I know that one can TRY to instill the proper switches, but sometimes no matter how loving and moral the upbringing the outcome is totally different. Also, adoption has proven this point too.
Speaking of that, I know it may seem like a lot to ask someone who is prediposed to be oblivious, but James, would you please mind our Czarina??? She has asked twice. Haaaaaaaa!
Woooweee! It is so HOT!
