Comments: I don't like any of the Survivor contenders. I guess I have jumped the shark -- or maybe Survivor has. David watches it. BTW, I washed some windows today so expect rain before morning.
Comments: I'm trying to get Jack Bauer and Grace to run on the Tea Party ticket in 2012. They could conquer the world together, and neither of them would bow down to anyone!!!
Comments: I don't like any of those....What's wrong with you guys.....?
Comments: OH, a big snoozin' smiley from someone whose tv tastes lean towards "24" and "Saving Grace" ...
Comments: I love it...Bill..! LOL ![]()

Comments: Just a heads-up ... tonight is the finale of Survivors: Heroes & Villains. The CBS channel ... be there! I think Pavarti is going to pull off the Win once the bananas and coconuts have settled. Texan Colby seems clueless and will probably be the first voted off tonight. Sandra is the sneaky one who could surprise us. I think Russell (also a Texan) has a future in politics and I'm hoping somebody figures out a way to blindside him before they get to the Final Three. Rumor has it that in a surprising twist, the bewildered Jerri will accidentally vote her ownself off.
Comments: You mean there are...officers clubs where they get really wild and crazy...? Well..Phillip, I didn't date several squadrons of officers from several bases and officers club.. It was just the Connally AFB at Waco...now it is a junior college. Those officers would hang out at Baylor Women's dorms, drooling at the mouth.. That was amazing to me when I was a freshman at Baylor...how they hung out at our dorms..! One lieutenant and his group...said they voted my legs the best of the Baylor girls, that came to their dances... Not any more...! Well, I guess there okay for little old lady legs.. Gone are the days of our youth...! I liked Tom Collins and Screwdrivers as well as frozen daiquiris...but it was still one a night...
Comments: Neighborhood crawfish boil tonight. Expect the usual 600-800 folks. 3000 lbs of mudbugs, with all the trimmings! And I'll probably be forced to drink some beer and do a little Zydeco dancing. Please stay away from YouTube for a few days! Must protect my reputation as a staid, conservative financial guy! Hush, hush Sweet Charlotte!
Comments: Oh, well, my drink of choice was really orange crush and ever clear...........haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! G you lived by your SS lessons, but I broke out and went renegade in college...believe me...Mr. and Mrs. Anders knew nothing about it either. But, I figured my moral lessons were learned and I knew to do unto others as I would have them do unto me...and the ol' ask yourself, ""What would Jesus do? blah blah blah............However, my going renegade only means in the alcohol sense...not otherwise!....just ask the band and the football team ...haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! Oh, I am amusing myself. sorry! It is nice and cool here in Houston......lots of rain here and further north. Boy, did we need it at our little ranch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments: A ps to Ginger My mom went to Lu Anns and yes I did also, she didn't tell me until after I went. She thought I wouldn't go if I knew she went !
Comments: Ginger, officers are a little older than frat boys in college and you must not have been to many officer clubs
Comments: I remember Champale, but I didn't drink much of anything..I had an early education on the 'sins' of my biological father's family...The Harrods, so I didn't imbibe in anything much.. My high school introduction to the Texas Aggies and the 'Corps' , was an education in and of itself... Those guys drank...! At parties, we would be dressed up in our best, get there by 8 PM and by 10:30, all those guys and their dates...would be totally 'gone' and under the tables...One time, we were at an SMU party in downtown Dallas, and all those sophisticated people didn't look so sophisticated by 10/ 10:30 at night.. At Baylor, I dated a lieutenant in the Air Force (Connally AFB) and by that time, I could sip on a mixed drink all night. At the Officers' Club, they didn't behave like they did at Fraternity Parties...thank you very much.. My brief experience in the clubs of Dallas was not as extensive as you guys..had.. I went dancing at LuAnn's with King Bourland...more than anything..
Comments: Champale? OH my goodness..........that was my drink of choice at 19 years old. I loved it! Is it still around? Cedar Canyon...........oh my...such fond memories.
Comments: Not sure the SS level of alertness had much to do with it. Had the media not posted the motorcade route everywhere, it might have been a different story. Sharon, I don't remember the Blackout, and I thought I covered all the hot spots at the time. Why didn't you tell me? By the way, I came across our prom picture the other day. We were looking good!
Comments: Lynell, it wasn't the Levee. The Levee played Dixieland music and was a fun place too. I think the name of the club was The Blackout. That seems to ring a bell and it was strictly a blues and late 50's rock joint. And, it was a joint.
Comments: Jud, Just a historical note: The Secret Service partied the night before the assassination in the Cellar in Fort Worth. Rumor has it that they stayed up so late that they weren't as alert as they should have been in protecting the President. The owner of the Cellar, Pat Kirkwood, was a friend of Jack Ruby.
Comments: Does that mean...Bill.....is the Debil....? ![]()
Comments: Champale is the debil!
Comments: The Levee was great! Anyone remember The Cellar in Ft Worth? Beatnik-type place in a basement where you sat on cushions on the floor. Out of curiosity, anyone remember a bottled alcohol drink called Champale? Akins made me drink so much of it one night I turned green!
Comments: Sharon, could you be thinking of The Levee on Mockingbird? Great live music. Is it my imagination or was music not deafening back then? I was at Terrelli's shortly before it burned, and the amps were cranked so loud the glasses rattled. Ruined a lovely dinner.
Comments: Well....I mentioned LuAnn's earlier in the club discussion and no one said anything.....! I was there a lot....dancing with the same guy that had an elevator in his home... I don't remember Jimmmy Reed..Maybe he was there, maybe he was not..! But thinking about the number of times we were there...maybe Jimmy Reed was there.. Welcome back...Charlotte..! ![]()
Comments: Lynell and Jud: We must have all been at LuAnn's on the same night to see Jimmy Reed. Or, Jimmy Reed was always drunk when he played there! I do remember his wife standing behind him and him almost falling off the stool. I loved Cedar Canyon. It really was fun. I can't remember the name of the club on Mockingbird, but it was pretty much a college crowd. There was no dance floor but it had great live music. Saw Dobie Gray and the Panthers and some blues guitarist that was sensational. I'll have to ask my brother about it since his crowd went there.
Comments: Man.... you guys are bringing back great memories! I loved Lu Ann's & Cedar Canyon!! Back in the late 60's & the 70's there were so many fun dance clubs you could go to all around N. Dallas & on the east side of downtown. I love to dance & I remember all those places with very fond memories!!
Comments: Ouch! Remind me to stay far away from Lynell. I also enjoyed LuAnn's. Lots of females there from NTSU! I also saw Jimmy Reed there...and at Cedar Canyon. Now there was a fun place! Remember Ron Chapman being host/MC so often? I have good memories of dancing with Gaylan Williams, Diane Wilson, Lena Liles, Sherry Young, Sharlene Houghtaling, Tina Carroll, and anyone else I could sucker out on to the dance floor. Fogleman, I think you also taught me a few steps. Remember the Watusi and the Hully Gully? And the North Texas Push?
Comments: Charlotte, what a wonderful cause to support. Good for you! I'm a big believer in spay or neuter. We need more Bob Barkers to promote that to the masses. LuAnn's -- wow, what memories. I saw Jimmy Reed perform there one night. He was so drunk he could barely stay on the barstool to sing as his wife prompted him with the lyrics. Bill's technique for getting served is creative. That was where I was served my first drink at age 19. Scotch. I thought that sounded sophisticated. ugh! Tasted like charcoal lighter. That may have also been my last Scotch.
Comments: I was at Lu Ann's a few times. I always thought it was a "right of passage" to teens in Big D. It was easy to get served there. Just find an empty table with glasses or beer bottles still on it, sit down and order another round.
Comments: Hi everyone, Hope all is well.........did any of you ever go to Lu Ann's?????? My sister went there all the time (unbeknown to my mother)....well most of the things we did were unbeknown to our mother........haaaaaaaaa! Right? I just finished a benefit for a NO KILL animal shelter tonight that was quite a success.. I am so happy to be able to help raise funds for this worthy cause! Texas used to be number ONE in killing animals in the rescue societies, but WE are changing the mind set now and are so proud! There is a different approach and we are getting the word out and educating folks!!!
Comments: I've paid for 2 concerts with MMM... One when I was married when he was doing those symphony/ cowboy concerts. He came to Nashville. He also was signing pictures at a record store in downtown Nashville..He signed one for me saying, "To my old girlfriend..That's somewhere in storage in Tx, now.. The store also held a drawing for a $1200. Yamaha guitar.. My name was drawn.. I gave that guitar to my son, who eventually traded it on a Takamine...! MMM told me later, I should have kept the guitar..I should have, but such is life... The other concert was a Cowboy Christmas Concert in Austin..Another teacher went with me...I didn't see MMM...up close. I've attended a couple other concerts, one in the 70's with my sister in Dallas. She had passes because she was a journalism teacher.. Anyway, I think I'll pass on Plantersville..I get those notices... Besides, I really don't understand 'why' he's not still married to his 3rd wife..Mary..? I met her and liked her.. I haven't seen anyone that's told me that story... I would think she got the ranch in Taos... Who knows..? Sandra Fant said his mother is ill..She's the only one I'm really interested in communicating with... I'm a little 'perturbed' at MMM's behavior.. Ryan is performing with him. That's son #1. 1st wife, Diana, the Beatles' secretary..
Comments: Ginger, come May 16th you need to hop on your pony (named Wildfire) and gallop on over to Plantersville, TX to visit the Bernhardt Winery. For a mere $45 you can enjoy cowboy songs under the stars and a photo-op with your old beau Michael M. Murphey and his son Murph. http://www.bernhardtwinery.com/ FYI - Plantersville is about 20 miles from here (here, being The Woodlands). |
