Comments: That's funny, Kathleen.. We need plenty of humor, don't we...? Now...Sam, you-all (ya'll) were talking 'guns' a lot on the 62 site..but that has been 'quelled'...probably, thanks to you.... We all appreciate humor. It smooths over a lot of things...usually.. Sometimes...not.. It's really a nice picture...with Bobby Moffett standing behind the sign...It does look like Texas scenery, too.. Oh gee...I do miss seeing Central Texas and the Bluebonnets.. Maybe next year...Sigh......
Comments: Yes Sam when I saw all those yellow T-shirts with the word Flingers written on them I knew I was looking at a subversive, terrorist group. I now have Homeland Security checking ya'll out.
Comments: Actually, Sam....I thought it was 'kinda cute'.... You-all or Ya'll 'hid' your guns too. You-all or Ya'll go to Adamson63 and read.. Ron invited us to post.. I do, anyway..but Ron said it was okay... we're talking bad guns...Roy Rogers cap pistols and all...I mentioned that we were talking about Dallas clubs in our 20's... They'll probably 'flock' to read what we said...!. ![]()
Comments: Ginger....puleeeeze! If I put that picture from Fling III on here, Homeland Security might interpret it as some crazy West Texas militia, or Kathleen might interpret it as some right wing political group. Oh wait, it is some right wing political group! We just didn't talk politics all weekend. TEA Party is a given in that group, so I feel right at home. Well, maybe I'll submit the picture to the webmistress, and request it be published....if I can figure out how to do it. Hey, you guys could hold a similar event. Charlotte could open up the Empty Arms Hotel down there at the ranch, and host it there. Maybe you could call it the Sling, or the Wing Ding!
Comments: Goodnight JohnBoy, and everybody else... Been to the 'Methodist' choir rehearsal... Sam has a great picture of their Fling Group...maybe he'll put it up... Found Charlotte. She's been gone....for days.. She's doing a fundraiser... Thanks for those people that raise money for worthy causes...!
Comments: Betty, you will never regret a minute spent with your mom, I know. Count it as a blessing. I am glad they found the correct meds for you dog. Hope you can make the July luncheon. Barry, I hope they have a better turn out than last year and that you get to take some of the vets fishing. I do not have a boat but let me know where to send a donation.
Comments: Betty, so nice to hear that your little Colt is making it. You have so much on your plate these days! You have EARNED a margarita, that is for sure.
Comments: I'm sorry to have to withdraw my duties as Luncheon planner for June. Some of you know about my dog, Colt. Epilepsy and a very new life. The meds have stopped the seizures, but the little guy is so different now. He is requiring constant care as we plot this new phase of our lives. Between him and Mother, I don't have time for much else. I sure hope Randy plans a luncheon for July. I just may indulge in one of those inviting margaritas. ![]()
Comments: Maybe...we relate on some 'spiritual' level with these 'topless' dancers...!
Comments: OK, why do you ladies know more about those old strip clubs than us guys do?
Comments: Speaking of an 'older' generation, my Great Aunt, 'Aunt Velma'....loved to go to the Aragon Ballroom. She made herself...dancing clothes... She still liked to go when she was about 80... I think I saw the Aragon Ballroom, once...
Comments: There was a topless club in the 'Industrial area' also..Somebody, maybe Tommy Davis took me there.. That lady was really 'gifted' with her 'boobs'...I've only been to one of those places.... once.. but I will always remember that topless dancer.. ![]()
Comments: I realize now that I made a big mistake posting about Warrior's Weekend right in the middle of the strip club and bar discussion, but please take time to look at their web site. Attend if you can (it's only 2 hrs from Houston) or send a donation. These soldiers have put their lives on the line so that we can be free and most of them will never be the same. Barry
Comments: Martha, haaa!
Comments: Lynell, that job would have worked better with my clothing budget than the one at the bank. You were expected to dress well on $220.00 a month.
Comments: Kathleen, there was also a strip club near Love Field. The marquee said something like Live Nude Dancing Girls. (The dead kind must not be popular.) Then it scrolled names like Bambi, Tawny, FiFi... I didn't see any names like Kathleen, Martha or Lynell.
Comments: I had read that there were three topless clubs in Dallas in the early sixties: The Carousel Club, The Colony Club and the It'll Do Club. That information is probably wrong. Does anyone remember the Red Devil in Oak Cliff?
Comments: Yup, Jud. You are so right. You know your bars. I got married in 1969 and ended my short but glamorous pub-crawling life. The girls from Athens Strip shopped at the same Safeway I did on Greenville Avenue. I lived on Oram. Oram St. was not so trendy when I lived there, but now it's all artsy. How I loved my little apartment, decorated with psychedelic posters and hand-me-downs.
Comments: Ah, that's were Eddie and I went on our first date.
Comments: LS, the club was Wellington's on Northwest Highway.
Comments: Thanks Bill, you are correct. There were two older women at Republic Bank (late 20's) that took me to the It'll Do and it was no strip club....The Athens Strip and Busy Bee were strip clubs. In the late 60's there were clubs in apartment complexes in the Love Field area that had good parties with live bands. Those were the days. Think the Class of 62 is recreated their youth with such wild goings on...what fun!
Comments: It'll Do Danceland
Comments: Kathleen, you know that a couple of innocents like Bill and I would never have frequented a strip club! Lynell, I don't think that was the name. It was large, multi level, with psychodelic screen images flashing on one of the levels. Sam, sounds like a fun trip, but lay off those shrooms!

Comments: Got back from the Fling, started reading all these posts about bars and clubs in Dallas, realize how decadent you all are, and have been listening to my BeeGees Saturday Night Fever album since then. Just finished, so I can move on...........Kathleen, I didn't shoot any of those helpless clay pigeons. I was the backup trigger puller on the clay machine, and picked them up afterward, as most of them didn't even get wounded. I limited my food intake there to 8000 calories per day, and made sure each morning that I walked, as I started doing here at home. It was about 1/2 mile to the back of shooting Star Farm, where campsite #2 and the sweat lodge was. Actually, there was no lodge, just a campfire site, with chairs that made you tell the most outrageous stories at night, under west Texas stars, with coyote packs howling all around. Or was that the women laughing at the outrageous stories??? It's always a soul cleansing event. Sorta like coming on this website. Anita and I lost the blind golf cart race by 18/100ths of a second. Obviously we need to do more blind driving here in Ennis for practice! We'll start this evening. Everyone have a great day.
Comments: Best name ever for a bar - The Library. It was in Austin and several times when talking to my Mom on the phone I told her the absolute truth, "I have to go Mom. Bob (Baker) and I are going to The Library tonight. What a legitimate scam!
Comments: Jud, wasn't Craig Morton's club The Bellringer? I remember the It'll Do as being near Baylor, dark, and with a dance floor. I don't recall any exotic dancers. I once spilled a cherry sloe gin fizz when on a date there with a dental student. Another Baylor area watering place was the Bent Elbow. A bar with an interesting name was the Idle Rich.
Comments: I don't remember the It'll Do as a strip club. It had a good bar and small dance floor and was frequented by "older" ladies in their late 20s/early 30s which was enticing to those of us in our mid-20s. Martha, the club in the Marriott on 635 was The Currency Club. When I was a buyer for Tom Thumb several of us went there frequently for happy hour after work.
Comments: Ginger, The It'll Do Club was a small East Dallas strip club on East Elm Street not too far from Fair Park. It competed in the early 60's with Ruby's Carousel Club. In recent years, it had a predominately Hispanic clientele. Some time ago I drove by the club, and it looked as if it were out of business.
Comments: As an Information Operator, I gave out the number to the It'll Do Club.. I thought that was a Black Club...Maybe Not...? What did you do at the It'll Do Club...? Or maybe it became integrated...? |
