Lynell, who's Rev. Ike...?

My grandmother, Mary Harrod, sent money to Rex Humbard...! I just didn't understand it and still don't..
**We have people here, in the Methodist church, that attended ORU...They thought he was wonderful...! I remember as a kid that we didn't think 'highly' of   OR...
***I'm using initials to not 'offend' people..Already have, probably... It's so easy for so many people to be 'sucked in' to this stuff..
There's a person that graduated from WHA that does this for a living..I've heard he's very rich..
(I've always put lawyers, salesmen, including 'used car' salemen, and many ministers, in the same category..They ought to have a 'BEWARE' sign after their name..)
I know there's a few nice lawyers, Lynell, just a few..There's also a few nice salesmen, and ministers...Wait, I should have included 'POLITICIANS'....!

Last year my mom asked me to read a letter that said she had won $250,000 and all she had to do was call the number and make arrangements for the money to be delivered.  I knew it was a scam immediately, but I read the letter and found the catch.  When the money was delivered, she was supposed to give the person her check for $3,500 as the delivery fee!  These people even called her several times to set up the delivery and couldn't understand when she said she wasn't interested in receiving any money from them.  You really have to be so careful, especially in these hard economic times.  Steve and I lost all of our savings a few years ago in a scam that sounded so legitimate but was really just a smaller scale pyramid scheme.  There was even a class action suit but no one got anything.  Live and learn.

Lynell, your Rev story jogged my memory, I had a great aunt, who suffered from crippling rheumatoid arthritis, she was the sweetest lady in the world, always with a smile despite her pain.  She sent lots of money to Oral Roberts for a healing, sometimes her entire SS checks, even went there to one of his meetings and he told her the reason she was not healed is because she did not have enough faith!   This lady had more faith and love in her heart than anyone I know and it saddened me that so many of the elderly got caught up in that money scam.

For years I was on the mailing list of Reverend Ike.  He'd send me slick brochures that showed his Bentleys, fur coats, mansions, etc.  If I wanted to live like the Rev, all I had to do was send him money and God would give me a Bentley, too.  I wonder how much money Reverend Ike spent on me.  Unfortunately for the good reverend, God gave me common sense.

"Bye and have a nice time"?  This might be a clue that something's awry.  The Internet is scary, that's for sure.  The Spokeo site Charlotte found earlier this week, for instance.  BTW, look on there for your name under nicknames, middle names, etc.  I found myself on that site under Margaret also.  Maybe I should look under Leftnell.

I have this friend that is 86 now, and years ago, she responded to one of those emails in Africa. She lost thousands and thousands of dollars, sending money to Africa..
I always understood, that she had a high IQ, but it didn't help her in this situation.
I got those emails from Africa, when I lived in Austin, but I just ignored  them..
I didn't have that kind of money to play with, anyway..
I can't understand why anyone would fall for that stuff...?  It's a strange world we live in...isn't it...?

I am very happy to receive your message after the long silence.

Once i receive your positive response, i will draft and send to you, the copy of the text of the application which you will send to the bank requesting them to release the deposit to you.

Hope to hear from you.

The Bionic Dru is going to be something to contend with.  I think she's wise to get the show on the road.  Best of luck to her in this.

Knee Knews:

It's official. Dru will undergo "total knee replacement" of her right knee on the afternoon of June 1st.

I tried to get her to put it off another two weeks because ... well, because I'm a procrastinator. She says it would just amount to being "anxious" about things for two additional weeks. If she had her way, they'd be doing the surgery today.

Is it possible we could have the June SOC luncheon in the cafeteria of Memorial Hermann Hospital of The Woodlands?

You can do a Google for "copier hard drives" and pull up all sorts of info on this subject.  Apparently, it is the next frontier for those looking to steal sensitive information.  I just took our all-in-one machine out back and shot it!  Just kidding.

I've owned several copiers over the years, and I've had to take them all apart for one reason or another.  Never saw anything resembling a hard drive.  Maybe the big, fancy copiers at FedEx/Kinkos have them.

Did you know that Kinkos was started by a court reporter who got tired of paying for copies, so he bought one and let other reporters use it for a fee?  The company was named after his dog.

Barry, the more I think about it may not have been on 20/20 but on the CBS worldwide news, if my memory is correct.  I believe they keep the stories on line so if any of you want to check it out, it is worthwhile.  I was amazed at the copy machines that do have the capability, it is a small hard drive that most do  not even know that is there and it is accessible to those who know how to retrieve the info.  Just one more thing to be cautious about when you copy important documents.

Now you ladies have me wondering if I should keep the natural salt and pepper look or go totally blond?  Or maybe red?  Our son has reddish brown hair from a skipped generation, so maybe red would be proper.  So many decisions!!  I should probably stay home today until I figure it out.

Most copy machines do not have any memory capability.  The all-in-one machines and fax machines do, but most only store the current document.  Ours doesn't do that very well most of the time!

Just another FYI moment, saw this on 20/20 the other night.  It seems that copier machines keep all those copies made in their system, hard drive too, yes they have one.  They found information from police stations, hospitals, anywhere you copied personal data for yourselves or hospital records copied and sent along with your SS# and other information, it is all held in that hard drive of the copy machine that anyone can get hold of. Very scary, especially when they reservice these machines and send them overseas etc.   You never know where your info is going these days.   Companies could fix this problem where it would erase the info with a $50.00 attachment, but they seldom do.   Now that is scary.

Of course, I'm blond..I have too many white/gray hairs mixed in to count, but I'm basically blonde..My hair has bordered on 'mousy' a few times depending on what the hormones are doing.. It takes a while for blonds to go totally gray..My mother has made it but she is 86.. I've had it frosted before but now it's naturally frosted...check the FB pictures.. I'm still on FB. Well, you would know that Char...you left me at least one message today..

Well, Sandy, that made no sense.  Goldie Hawn was not known for SNL.  She was the Laugh In girl in the bikini who said, "Sock it to me."  Maybe you remind me of Jane Curtin.  I know it's some funny blonde lady.

My motto is ALWAYS ask for copies of your records as you have medical things done.  My friend in Santa Fe recently died because a radiologist ordered a sonogram on the wrong breast after a mammogram came back suspicious.  Her sonogram was negative, of course, and the radiologist continues to enjoy life.  Right boob, left boob -- no big deal, eh?  Her ashes were let go over Dallas by her skydiving friends as Girls Just Want to Have Fun played on one skydiver's boom box.  We are the captains of our own ships, at least for the time being.  Get copies of everything medical, no matter how much the doctor's office whines..  A recent trip to Presbyterian in Dallas showed me to be a 65 year old man with a drug addictuion problem and a total knee.  Huh?

SNL does remind me of young Goldie Hawn, now that you mention it.

It seems that SPOKEO.com has a lot of inaccuracies. I wonder if we should worry more about the misinformation than what is accurate. I looked up several family members and much of the info was WRONG. Sometime ago I had to compile my medical records to send to another doctor. I was amazed at the misinformation in my records. One record stated that my father was an alcoholic. My father NEVER drank any thing alcoholic not even beer. He could have been a Baptist minister. So I was really surprised by seeing that misinformation and other mistakes. I know credit bureaus make mistakes about credit ratings all the time. It just seems we should have more right to know and if necessary correct what it being said about us.

I deleted myself from Spokeo, then searched for a long time to find my husband's name.  Then I found myself listed again by my first name that I never use. They wouldn't let me delete three names using one e-mail address.  Grrr.

You can remove yourself by first searching for yourself on their site.... find and copy the URL(address) of your page  at the top.  Look at the bottom right corner of their site and click on Privacy.  It sends you to a page where you PASTE that address you copied, then type in your email address and  submit to remove yourself.  You may have to type in a code first.

I just tried it for a friend and it said to try back tomorrow because they limit the number of private omits???

I know there are many sites like this, but this one is using FB and your photos etc..........that might just be a little un nerving to grand parents who have pix of their grand children on there or pix of their houses etc......I am sure the horse is already out of the barn on this stuff anyway but at least we can delay some of it???  Maybe?
